September 17, 2026EN 1317 Under Revision: What Could Change in Europe’s Road Restraint System Certification
Europe’s road restraint system standards are entering a revision-preparation phase. The VERSA project, funded under European Commission tender EC-GROW/2025/OP/0074, is collecting technical, regulatory and tendering information for the upcoming revision of EN 1317. Its stated target is to compile the basic information by the end of 2026.

The trigger is the revised EU Construction Products Regulation (EU) 2024/3110. Road restraint systems are treated as construction products, so EN 1317-5 and related parts of EN 1317 will need to be adapted to the new regulation. VERSA is examining requirements across EU Member States, EEA countries, Switzerland and Türkiye.

For buyers and manufacturers, future changes may affect product information, performance assessment and supporting compliance documents. The revised EN 1317 has not yet been issued. Continue using the current applicable requirements, and do not claim compliance with an unpublished version.
